CHICO, Calif. — Congressman Doug LaMalfa, (R) California 3rd District, said he anticipates Democrats to continue focusing on investigating President Trump.
LaMalfa, who spoke at a Republican women's club at the Elks Lodge in Chico Thursday, said that the Democrats will "carry through with this whether there is anything there or not."
"We have assurances from Bob Mueller himself that there's nothing to collusion," he said, adding that neither the special counsel nor U.S. Attorney General William Barr found enough evidence to conclusively bring charges on obstruction by the president.
"The Democrats are going to continue this for a campaign issue for the presidential candidates and for other Democrats in safe districts." said LaMalfa.
"We've seen (House Speaker) Pelosi step back on this a little bit as an issue, because she thinks impeachment is a loser for them," said LaMalfa. "But they'll still keep it up."
LaMalfa said the president should focus his energies on continuing the economic expansion, immigration reform and infrastructure.
