BURNEY, Calif. — According to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, a woman attacked a man with hedge trimmers, threatening to stab him, and the man defended himself with a baseball bat.
Shasta County Sherrif's Office Deputies were dispatched to the area of Mt. View Rd. and Quebec St. in Burney for a possible assault with a baseball bat Saturday around 4:40 p.m..
Deputies arrived on scene and contacted a female subject, identified as Bonnie Montgomery, 49, sitting in front of an apartment on Quebec Street. Officials say Montgomery appeared to have severe injuries to her left arm and injuries to her head.
Deputies contacted a male subject, later identified as Keith Birse, 48, in the 37000 block of Mt. View Road.
Officials say witnesses on scene said Birse was the one who struck Montgomery with a baseball bat. Birse was detained until further investigation could be completed.
After further investigation, it was determined that Montgomery and Birse were involved in an argument.
Montgomery came at Birse with hedge trimmers and told him she was going to stab him. Birse retrieved a baseball bat to protect himself and struck Montgomery causing injuries to her arm and head.
Montgomery was transported to the hospital where she will be treated for her injuries and Birse was later released.
Montgomery will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. This case will be submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
