WASHINGTON (TND) — Actress and model Raquel Welch has died, according to multiple reports.
TMZ broke the news, noting that Welch's family said she died after a brief illnesson Wednesday morning.
She was 82 years old.
Welch, known an American icon who helped break the mod for females in Hollywood, rose to fame for her role in the 1966 movie "Fantastic Voyage." The same year, she starred as "Loana" in "One Billion Years B.C." While she only had a few lines, photos of her wearing a doe-skin bikini landed her fame as as an international sex symbol.
She went on to star in other films in the late 1960s and early 1970s, such as "Bedazzled," "Bandolero!," "100 Rifles," "Myra Breckinridge," and "Hannie Caulder."
Welch also starred in several variety shows and appeared on "The Cher Show" in 1975. The two women and performed the song "I'm a Woman."
She won multiple awards.
In 1974, she earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in "The Three Musketeers." She was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Television Film for her performance in the film "Right to Die."
