NORTHSTATE, Calif. — The cities of Oroville and Redding are set to receive a combined $3.65M grant from the Governor's Office of California to address the ongoing homelessness crisis in the state.
California Governor Gavin Newsom attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Orange County on Thursday, Oct. 27 for a new unified command center for healthcare workers and local law enforcement to address homelessness.
Governor Newsom spoke at the event and said "We want to see results. We want to see encampments cleaned up in this state. I put out $48 million in new encampment resolution grants to eight counties. We want to see real results, and we want to see them right now."
Oroville and Redding will receive the aforementioned $3.65M in round 2 grantee funding. This follows the round 1 grantees which gave money to Eureka, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco Counties, to help people living in camps transition into stable housing.
