CHICO, Calif. — The Chico city council is looking for ways to revitalize city plaza, including approving alcohol sales in the area.
Councilmembers are set to approve the ordinance during Tuesday night's council meeting to "permit certain sales, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on city plaza property," as part of public events.
A business would need to apply for a permit from the city 30 days before an event. According to Councilmember Tom Van Overbeek, big events are already on the way.
“One of the things that we are doing this summer is putting on concerts. And, as part of that, there’s going to be a beer garden...by the trolley mural,” Van Overbeek said Tuesday. “People will be able to get a glass of wine, or beer, while they are watching a concert. This is the kind of thing that a lot of cities have done to help stimulate vitality and their downtowns.”
Van Overbeek said that part of revitalizing downtowns means making them centers for entertainment and fine dining.
The council will put the final touches on approving the ordinance on Tuesday night. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Watch the meeting LIVE on the council's website,HERE.
