SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The South Sacramento California Highway Patrolofficer who was hit by a suspected drunken driver in October returned home to his family Wednesday, in what many are calling a Christmas Miracle.
Officer Aaron Weikert was left in critical condition after being hit by the suspected drunken driver while investigating a deadly crash on Oct. 16, according to the CHP.
Weikert suffered major injuries throughout his whole body, and in a press release Tuesday officials said he had a long recovery ahead.
After over two months of recovery and physical therapy Weikert was welcomed home by all three of his children. The heartwarming reunion came after one of his daughters sent a letter to Santa asking for him to bring their daddy home for Christmas.
"All three wanted the same thing for Christmas, to have their father home," the CHP said. "Today, with a little magic from Santa Claus, that wish came true."
