REDDING, Calif. — The city of Redding will begin construction on a two-lane roundabout Wednesday in South Redding.
It will be located at the intersection of South Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane. City officials plan to have a temporary roundabout in place while the permanent one is being developed.
This roundabout will be the largest in the Redding area, similar to the roundabout at Deschutes Road in Anderson, officials said. The project will include traffic signal removal, electrical work, excavation, utility relocations, and adjustments, in addition to the creation of curbs, sidewalks, driveways, curb ramps, pedestrian islands, asphalt-concrete pavement, storm drainage and landscaping.
There will not be a traffic signal due to the creation of the roundabout, which means reduced equipment, maintenance costs and the environmental benefits that come from not having vehicles idling in place at a stoplight.
While the majority of the work on this project will be conducted between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, construction will be happening around the clock, with nighttime work hours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
During construction, the area will be subject to traffic control measures, including lane and street closures, with the following exceptions:
The community is asked to avoid the area, if possible, or to reduce speed and drive carefully in the area for their own safety and that of construction workers.
