SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — If you are outside at all Saturday, you can feel the cooler temperatures that have made their way into the Northstate over Friday evening.
We also felt some gusty winds over night in the Redding area, and we can continue to see them throughout the weekend.
We’ve seen a cold front move through the Northstate in the early hours of Saturday, and it’s definitely signifying a change in our weather. Said KRCR's First Weather Forecaster Preston Donion, "On the back side of the front, our temperatures will be cooler — think highs in the low 70s and even mid 60s throughout the week. Unfortunately we won’t see significant rain in the Valley associated with this frontal passage, but the unstable pattern looks to continue, and that could mean another shot at rain later in the week.
Though we aren't seeing rain quite yet across the Northstate, this break is the heat is something that came late and long anticipated this year, and it finally is starting to feel like fall.
KRCR's Meteorologist Brian Scofield said that while we do get to enjoy these cooler temperatures, there will be some nice breaks in the cloud coverage over Saturday, so there's still a chance to go out and enjoy the sunshine over the weekend.
Wind conditions are the only real concern we have for this weekend weather, as gusty conditions put us at higher risk for wildfire.
In terms of winds, we’ve already seen a switch from southerlies ahead of the front to a more northerly flow," said Preston, "and those northerly winds are setting up dangerous fire conditions for Sunday. Even with the cooler temperatures, it is critically important that you stay fire smart this weekend, because those gusty winds can lead to rapid spread should a fire start
Being fire safe includes following your counties burn status, and though we are seeing cooler temperatures, we are also still seeing burning status as suspended across the Northstate. If you want to see if it is a burn day in your area, you can visit Cal Fire's burn permits page.
