LAS VEGAS, Calif. — This article has been changed to reflect that Nellie Williams-Miller is not returning home but is in fact continuing to compete in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
In a two-week long rodeo event, Cottonwood's Nellie Williams-Miller, is currently ranked third in the World for barrel racing as she competes in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
With more runs to go, Nellie is riding her 10-year-old mare and number three Barrel Racing Horse of the Year, "Sister," at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Williams-Miller is one of 15 barrel racers to make it to the 2018 National Finals Rodeo. Williams-Miller's average time put her in fourth after the first four rounds, next toCarman Pozzobon from Canada, but the competition is not over.
In World standings, Williams-Miller holds third for barrel racing bringing in $167,826 in winnings. This is behind number two, Amberleigh Moore at $182,473, and number one,Hailey Kinsel at $242,392.
Williams-Miller placed fourth in her first round with a time of 13.79 seconds. Her second round timed out at 14.06 seconds, third round 14.05 seconds and her final round a time of 13.78 seconds.
The Wrangler NFR consists of 10 rounds, one round each day during 10 consecutive days of rodeo. Each contestant competes once each day.
Williams-Miller traveled to Vegas with her husband, James Miller, General Manager of the Red Bluff Round-Up, along with their two daughters Payton, 5, and Hadley, 2, who have been helping their mom sign autographs.
