Officials with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office's (SCSO) Major Crimes Unit (MCU) are currently investigating the circumstances around the suspicious death of a local Redding man.

The SCSO said on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Alex Stevens, 34, of Redding succumbed to his injuries sustained from a suspected assault near the City of Shasta Lake over a week ago.

According to the SCSO, at around 6 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 8, their deputies were dispatched to a report of a unknown disturbance at Lake Boulevard and Construction Way in northern Redding. When they arrived, deputies found an injured Stevens who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Based on the circumstances surrounding the incident, the SCSO says the death has been deemed suspicious in nature.

Steven's autopsy has been scheduled, according to the SCSO, and no further details on Steven's injuries will be provided at this time.
