UPDATE, JAN. 17, 2:30 AM:

More details were released by police early Tuesday morning after a man was arrested for 'Attempted Murder of a Police Officer' in Redding.

The following is a press release from the Redding Police Department:

Man Arrested for Shooting at Redding Police Officers

On Monday, January 16th, 2023, at 6:47 P.M., officers with the Redding Police Department responded to the intersection of Cascade Lane and Victor Avenue based on numerous reports of gunshots fired. Officers arrived in the area and were on foot looking for the shooter when they were fired upon, causing them to take cover and create a perimeter to evacuate citizens and contain the scene.

As officers were establishing a perimeter, a male walked out to them from the Casa Serena Apartments located at 2351 Victor Avenue. As the male approached the officers, they could see the silhouette of a handgun in his front sweatshirt pocket. Officers detained the male and confirmed he had a concealed and loaded handgun in his front sweatshirt pocket, as well as additional handgun ammunition in his pockets. The male was identified as 31-year-old Cord Lane of Redding.

Officers learned Lane is a resident at the location and identified his apartment. The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team was summoned to conduct a protective sweep of the apartment and did not locate any other persons.

The Detective Division was called upon to assume the investigation. A search warrant was served at Lane’s apartment, where spent casings and live ammunition were collected.

Lane was booked at the Shasta County Jail for negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in public, and the attempted murder of a Police Officer.

UPDATE, JAN. 16, 9:45 PM:

Officials with the Redding Police Department (RPD) confirmed additional details surrounding a report of shots fired and police activity in a neighborhood in east Redding on Monday night.

Lieutenant Timothy Renault with the RPD says officers began receiving multiple reports of shots fired near Victor Avenue and Cascade Boulevard at around 6:45 p.m. on Monday night. He said officers immediately responded to the area, parked their cruisers, and began walking around to learn where the shots originated.

However, while walking near an apartment complex just north of Victor and Cypress Ave., Lt. Renault said officers heard additional shots fired in their general direction. Officers then took cover and tried to figure out where the shots were coming from. During this time, Lt. Renault says additional callers reported the gun shots came from the nearby apartment complex.

In response, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter, CHP officers and Shasta County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area and closed off Victor while they searched for the shooting suspect.

Lt. Renault says the RPD received another report from a resident saying someone came out of their apartment complex with a firearm right around the time the shots-fired-call initially went out. Officers found a person matching the suspect's description and detained them.

Ultimately, officers found a loaded pistol in the front hoodie pocket of the suspect, as well as live rounds on Victor Avenue and bullet casings leading from the street to the apartment complex. Lt. Renault says nobody was injured during the incident.

Officials said the suspect has been taken to RPD's Investigations Division to be interviewed further. Officers are working to obtain a search warrant for the suspect's apartment.
