REDDING. Calif. — After footage circulated on social media from a bystander at an arrest, the Redding Police Department chief stated an officer was seen 'forcefully stepping on the head of the suspect.' The video has caused some Redding locals to ask the question, where are the body cameras?
Redding Police Chief Bill Schueller told KRCR the decision approved by the City Council is about to go through a trial run starting Tuesday, Jan. 31.
“We have a trial of eight cameras going in the field, actually, Tuesday," Chief Schueller told KRCR. "There will be a 90-day trial with one vendor and then we have another 45-day trial with another vendor that will run simultaneously with that one.”

When added about the recent video on social media, Schueller said, “We take any kind of allegations of excessive force and any kinds of misconduct seriously and we will make sure they are investigated and will respond accordingly.”
Redding locals have planned a 'police accountability' protest at Redding City Hall this Thursday at 6 p.m.
