Construction of a new Redding roundabout brought road closures for the first time on Wednesday.

The $4 million city project is being done by Tullis Inc., a Redding contracting company. Work first began on May 9, and the project's current end dateis November 14 of this year.

Street work will include excavation, curbs, sidewalks, storm drainage, traffic signal removal and electrical work. The main purpose for installing this roundabout is to accommodate the future businesses opening off South Bonnyview and Bechelli—in particular, the new Costco.

Naturally, drivers in the area will want to know the exact construction schedule, as traffic delays are expected.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then again from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. In other words, workers will be out for 21 hours each weekday.

During daytime construction, westbound South Bonnyview will have two lanes open, and eastbound South Bonnyview and Bechelli will have one lane open at all times.

During nighttime construction, westbound South Bonnyview will be blocked off from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Also important to note: on Friday and Saturday nightthis week, the existing traffic signals will be removed from the intersection and a temporary roundabout will be built.

The city of Redding advises all motorists to "drive with caution" when approaching this construction area, if not just avoiding it all together.
