CHICO, Calif. — Construction is beginning in Upper Bidwell Park in the City of Chico.
Portions of Upper Park Road have been closed to the public for over a decade due to increased erosion from storms and wear and tear.
Those traversing the area should remain cautious as large construction vehicles will be nearby fixing the roads.
KRCR spoke to an official with the city who said the project will reduce rock and sediment from the road that falls into Big Chico Creek, helping the environment.
“A portion of the road has been closed since 2012 because it’s had so much erosion and so much damage from water,” said Linda Herman, Chico Parks and Resources manager. “Big Chico Creek is a salmon creek. It helps support the chinook salmon run. We are trying to reduce the amount of sediment from coming off the road and coming off the trails from entering into Big Chico Creek and actually dispersing it into the meadows and the field."
The project should be completed by Oct. 1, 2022.
