REDDING. Calif. — Redding Police Department held active shooter training on Thursday on Simpson University Campus on College View Drive.
The training is intended for RPD personnel to practice realistic drills in the case of an active shooter. Starting bright and early, RPD conducted the first training at 9 AM. Training consisted of role players with firearm blanks with the intention of making these training’s as realistic as possible for officers.
Redding Fire Department Chief, Shawn Plummer, spoke with KRCR about the significance of these trainings. "This is the second training we've done with RPD. We did one at the hospital with them a few weeks ago and this is just adding to it making it more complicated. Adding additional aspects to the training to challenge both RPD and ourselves in order to make it a smoother operation. The smoother the faster and the faster the more lives we save.”
RPD advises locals to avoid the area if possible these training conclude tonight at 10 p.m. at Simpson University. To ensure the safety of the role players, team members and other participants of these training sessions.
