REDDING, Calif. — The Shasta County Superior Court Addicted Offender Program held its commencement ceremony Friday morning at the Veterans Hall in Redding.
Five of them—Ashley Perera, Jonathan Pry, Jayme Swain, Michael Steele, Kimberly Woodcock—were honored by local elected officials and their representatives for completing a program that can lead to their record being cleared and getting their lives back on track.
"It took me from homeless, jobless, no ties to my family anymore—really just not well—to, I have a really amazing relationship with my family again, I got to go to Shasta College for welding and I have my own apartment and it got me in a really amazing job at Shasta Lake Sierra Pacific where I started off as a laborer and they gave me a chance to become their millwright—they're first female millwright I guess, up there, and I get to learn everything...it's just amazing,"Ashley Perera said.
And it was a graduation, of sorts, for Judge Cara Beatty whose last ceremony on Friday, as she's retiring. We wish her the best in her retirement.
