Suspicious death near Weed has been ruled a homicide

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — Update as of 8 p.m. Friday, February 8

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office has ruled this death a homicide. The body was found by a utility worker near North Old State Road in vicinity of Eddy Creek Road, a remote area located northwest of Weed.

The man has been identified as Hunter Simms, 31, of Texas.

Siskiyou County deputies are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found at the bottom of an embankment near a county road in the "South County" area of Siskiyou County.

Officials said a utility worker found the body around 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Authorities said evidence at the scene suggested the death was suspicious.

Siskiyou County patrol units and the Major Crimes Unit, including detectives and forensic technicians, are conducting a crime scene investigation and an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause and manner of the death.
