CHICO, Calif. — In Chico, the Comanche Creek camp was finally cleared of most of its homeless residents.
Many residents have been taken to the Pallet Shelters run by Jesus Center in the eastern part of the city, or at the Torres Shelter.
In the encampment, which had a population that fluctuated around 100 people, there were local concerns about the city's ability to house all those who have been forced out.
KRCR has been in contact with Torres Shelter Executive Director Taylor Storey, who gave a statement saying,"We have received 43 referrals (inquiries about folks who were deemed eligible). Six have chosen to stay who are specifically from Comanche Creek. We currently have 4 Harm Reduction Program beds open, 11 open beds in the women's dorm, and 33 open beds in the men's dorm. The process has been smooth and collaborative with the city, with an average response time for approval from our team of five minutes.
