YREKA, Calif. — Caltrans announced that one-way traffic control was in effect Monday morning n State Route 96 in Siskiyou county due to a sinkhole.
The transportation agency said the traffic was impacted about 12 miles west of Gottsville.
A sinkhole is a depression in the ground that has no natural external surface drainage. Essentially that means, when it rains, all the water stays inside the sinkhole and typically drains into the subsurface, according to the USGS.
