SHASTA LAKE, Calif. — A piece of history cruised through the doors of the Shasta Lake Visitors Center Thursday, celebrating Veterans' Day Transformation of the Boomtown Museum.
A restored 1943 Ford GPW military WWII jeep was driven into the lobby of Shasta Lake Visitors Center, driven byJohn Duckett, a retired City Manager from the City of Shasta Lake and a World War II buff.
Duckett restores World War II trucks and has been fascinated by the topic since he was young. The jeep was delivered to the U.S. Army on Dec. 7, 1943, on Pearl Harbor Day and used in WWII.
If visitors want to see the jeep in person, it will be on display from Nov. 3 to Nov. 12 just outside the doors of the Boomtown Museum to commemorate Veterans Day.
The Boomtown Museum, operated by the Shasta Lake Heritage & Historical Society, was transformed and filled with military artifacts for November to honor veterans and active-duty service members from all the military branches.
The Boomtown Museum is located at 1525 Median Avenue in Shasta Lake, open Monday, Friday & Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
