FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A homicide investigation is underway after a police officer and his wife were found shot to death in their North Carolina home.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, supervisors with the department responded to the home on April 28 to check on an officer who failed to report for duty.
Once at the home, officers entered the residence and discovered two deceased individuals, identified as Domingo Tavarez-Rodriguez, a Fayetteville police officer, and his wife, Yenitza Arroyo Torres. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.
Based on the incident involving a current/active Fayetteville Police Officer, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was requested and has assumed the criminal investigation," an online release from the department said.
Police referred to the case as a homicide investigation in a press release and at the news conference but did not elaborate on any details.
Fayetteville Police Chief Kemberle Braden said during the news conference that Officer Tavarez-Rodriguez had been with the department since June of 2021 and that he had retired from the military.
The department deferred any additional questions about the criminal investigation to the SBI.
