Two corrections deputies are recovering after they were stabbed by an inmate in custody on murder charges.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in Chattanooga, Tenn., said the violent incident happened just after 3 a.m. Thursday.

The deputies were delivering medication at the Silverdale Detention Center and the trouble started when one of them opened a cell door.

Authorities said Daques Davis "rushed the door, pushed his way out, and began to run towards two inmates who were in the unit day room on their allotted recreation time.

The deputies were not the 25-year-old inmate's intended target.

Davis had a homemade weapon (shank) and was attempting to stab the two inmates," the sheriff's office said.

The deputies tried to intervene but the sheriff's office said,

Davis used his homemade weapon (shank) to cut one corrections deputy on his wrist and stab another on the forehead twice.

They eventually got Davis under control and medical staff treated them before they weretaken to a medical facility.

None of the three inmates were hurt.

Davis is now charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault on a deputy, and possession of a weapon in a penal institution.

He was already charged with first-degree premeditated murder, possession of a firearm during a felony, and possessing a firearm with intent to go armed.

Police said last May, Davis passed a man near a school, turned around, and shot that man several times. The victim later died, and the incident was captured on several surveillance cameras.
