Authorities said they will release police body camera footage of the Louisville mass shooting that claimed six lives, including the life of the gunman, as well as injured eight others.

The Louisville Metro Police Department made the announcement during a news conference Tuesday morning.

Dr. Jason Smith, who is the chief medical officer at the University of Louisville Health, said Officer Nicholas Welt was shot in the head and remains in critical condition.

Smith added that three other patients are also still in the hospital and continue to be treated, while the others were treated and released.

We used 170 units of blood yesterday," Smith said, with Mayor Craig Greenberg urging the public to make blood donations.

Interim Chief Jackie Gwinn-Villaroel said the shooter, 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, bought the gun on April 4 and targeted certain people in the attack.

She said he was an employee at the Old National Bank -- where the shooting took place Monday morning around 8:30 -- and was fatally shot by authorities at the scene.

The victims were identified as Tommy Elliott, 63, Jim Tutt, 64, Josh Barrick, 40, and Jiliana Farmer, 57.

Police said a fifth person, Deanna Eckert, 57, who was hurt in the shooting, later died from her injuries.

Deanna was a very kind and thoughtful person," the mayor said.

The chief said Wilt had graduated from training just 10 days prior to the shooting. She said Wilt and other officers “unflinchingly” engaged the shooter at Old National Bank and stopped him from killing more people.

The act of heroism can't be overstated on yesterday. They did what they were called to do. They answered that call to protect and serve,” she said.

Authorities also said the shooter livestreamed the attack, with Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, announcing it pulled the stream almost immediately.

Greenberg said he wants legislators to address the violence epidemic, work on a plan and “get it implemented as fast as possible.

Greenberg also said he is focused on caring for the community during a tragic time. He added that there will be a vigil held for the victims and survivors, as well as the community, Wednesday evening.
