CINCINNATI (WKRC) — The family spokesman for Damar Hamlin said they got a positive report from doctors Wednesday morning.
Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit with Tee Higgins during the Bengals-Bills game at Paycor Stadium on Monday. Hamlin was given CPR and resuscitated. He's been listed in critical condition at UC Medical Center.
Spokesman Jordan Rooney said doctors told the family that Hamlin is making progress in his recovery. However, Rooney couldn't go into specifics.
"They know Damar, so they're worried, but hearing that he's going in the right direction, they weren't surprised," said Rooney. "They're confident in his ability to overcome adversity."
Rooney also said family members are new fans of the city of Cincinnati because everyone has been incredible from the Bengals to the hospital staff.
Rooney did say there was confusion with Hamlin's uncle and Hamlin did not have to be resuscitated twice.
The family was dismayed to learn there has been backlash toward Higgins. They called the hit with Higgins a freak football accident and they feel no ill will toward the Bengals player, according to Rooney. Higgins has reached out multiple times to offer his support to Hamlin's family.
Meanwhile, fans continue to stop by and show their support.
