Police in Washington, D.C. said they are searching for armed robbers who crashed into the back of an Uber and held the driver and two passengers at gunpoint.

The Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to to an armed robbery in progress on Sunday shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Once at the scene, authorities said officers interviewed the Uber driver, who told police he was sitting at a red light when his car was hit by another car.

The driver said multiple people got out of the suspect's car and surrounded his Uber with guns pointed at him, according to a police release. The driver said the suspects demanded that he get out of the car.

The police report noted that two passengers were in the Uber at the time of the crash. After being treated at the scene, the Uber driver, along with one of the passengers, were taken to the hospital.
