FOREST CITY, N.C. (TND) — There's a warning out for drivers in at least one North Carolina city.
Authorities in Forest City told people filling up to be on the lookout after razor blades were found on gas pump handles, apparently by someone wanting to cut unsuspecting victims.
The Forest City Police Department said that dangerous crime has happened in multiple locations.
The first razor blades were actually found by the state Department of Agriculture during a routine inspection. That prompted searches at other pumps and gas stations, and more razor blades were found.
We are actively investigating these instances now in cooperation with the state Department of Agriculture and will follow up with more information when available,” the Forest City Police Department said in a statement. “In the meantime, please be aware of your surroundings while pumping gas and always check before grabbing the gas pump handle.
Forest City is between Charlotte and Asheville.
