Family business helps plus size women feel comfortable in their own clothes

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (KTVL) — Being a creator and designer is a skill that can last generations.

Anna Chauffe has created a niche market through her plus-size clothing.

“We all deserve to feel beautiful in what we wear and when you don’t have that right representation, it can feel depressing,” said Anna Chauffe, owner of The Creator's Gallery and Boutique and Sonshine Apparel.

Sonshine Apparel did not come about until 2018, but Anna has been helping women and men who need reasonably priced clothes since 2009. Her store carries garments sized for men and women from size 0 to 6XL.

They feel like a million dollars when I’ve made them something and they come into the store looking for something second-hand,” Anna Chauffe said. “I tell them if they can’t find it on the floor then please allow me to help you out I have a sewing machine I’m a seamstress what can I do to help you.

After owning three different locations throughout Oregon, Anna and her daughter, Faith Chauffe, found their 4,000-square-foot storefront in Grants Pass to house both businesses under one roof.

Faith is in charge of selling all of the second-hand clothing they have to the community and through Poshmark online so they can make room to sell more clothes created by hand.

As far as the liquidation, we’ve always had clothes coming out of our ears is the term we use, so we never had a shortage of clothing but that is one of the reasons we began consignment,” said Faith Chauffe, manager and co-owner.

Once Anna and Faith sell all of the second-hand clothing items, they plan to open the storefront up to teach modeling to plus-size women. They also wish to have art instructors come in and paint.

This is all part of Anna's next phase of what she wants for the community of Southern Oregon.

“I want a fashion show to be held in the World Trade Center in New York, that is my absolute goal that is what I want to take away from this,” said Anna Chauffe. “In my journey through that like a mother hen gathering her chicklets, I want to gather Southern Oregon.”
