CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Instead of heading off to a quiet retirement, Jim Fullan decided to go back to college instead; to try to play on the baseball team.
He's doing that at the age of 56.
Fullan joined the U.S. Army out of high school and spent 36 years working for the United States Postal Service before retiring. Then he enrolled at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pa., because he wanted to play on the school's baseball team.
You know, the more I talked about this, the more people laughed at me,” Fullan told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That made me want to do it more. It seemed like a joke at first, but I will see it through.
Fullan didn't even play high school baseball as he was cut from the team at Bishop Eagan High School in Fairless Hills, Pa., which is located roughly 25 miles north of Philadelphia.
He loved the game enough, though, to continue to play baseball in adult leagues until age 39.
Now Fullan is on a college team and more than twice the age of his teammates.
As of March 21 Fullan had appeared in two games, both as a pinch-hitter, and is 0 for 2 with a strikeout for a team that has a 9-3 record.
He has yet to play in the field.
