SAN ANTONIO, TX (WOAI) — A mother and daughter are reaching a special milestone as they both will earn a master's degree with a 4.0 GPA from Our Lady of the Lake University.
Alissa Meyer, 50, and her daughter 25-year-old Elizabeth Meyer will earn a Master of Social Work degree, according to a news release.
They both previously earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Mary Hardin-Baylor and three Associate's Degrees from Central Texas College.
Staff said they also work at Walgreens as pharmacy technicians and live on campus together.
She’s my best friend,” daughter Elizabeth said. “All our classmates call her ‘mom.’
Both mother and daughter have overcome many battles to get where they are now. They lost their home due to Hurricane Harvey and were forced to live in a hotel for three years in Killeen.
Their next goal is to take a one-year break, but they plan to return to Our Lady of the Lake University to earn their Ph.D. in Leadership Studies.
